New Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal For Smartphones The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Killer

Zyiyun Smooth 4 gimbal Info
Zhiyun-Tech announces new Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal For Smartphones. Major upgrades over the Smooth-Q gimbal. Focus-pull and zoom functions that work great.

Expect the new Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal to be released sometime in early April 2018.

Smooth 4 features

Some of the new functions to expect with the Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal:

PhoneGo mode for instant scene transitions.
Focus-Pull and Zoom capabilities.
Intuitive one click mode switch.
Motor force boost to 500 gram payload.
A zoom control for fast in and out movements.

We also get a new Vertigo Effect control knob:
For those that don’t know what the Vertigo Effect is – The camera lens zooms in on the subject, while the camera itself is physically moved away from it, or vice versa. This effectively changes the focal length of the lens without altering the image composition. This causes the image’s depth information to either compress or stretch, making the image look like it’s getting deeper or flatter, or to put it another way, objects in the foreground and background will appear to change in size relative to each other. This can be done with the Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal by just turning a knob and not having to move your camera in and out.

Zhiyun-tech Smooth 4 Specs
One big improvement it the payload increase. The Zhiyun Smooth 4 will be able to carry a 500 gram 210g weight load. That is double what the Smooth-Q and the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 can carry. This will make it much easier to use add-ons like, microphones, lights, Dead Cat windshields, phone zoom lenses and many other improvement for shooting footage.

The USA is now set to sell at a $139 retail but in other parts of the world it will be priced between $140-$170.

The Zhiyun Smooth 4 can be found here as soon as available for sale.

  1. Not sure where you got the 500g payload, but it does not seem that is accurate.
    Valid Payload:
    Max: 210 g
    Min: 75 g

    1. Zhiyun now says 210g payload. When they sent out the press info paperwork with the beta Smooth 4 they told us the motors were 50% stronger and it would hold 500g. The final release copies only hold 210g so I guess the 50% stronger motors part is also a lie.

  2. Hope it will fully compliant with Samsung Note 8 for balancing….? Any commence of this combination because I don’t use iPhone at all….

    1. Yes, it will work with the Note 8. The Note 8 is 195 grams and the Smooth 4 is rates at 210 grams but will actually hold more weight. You will likely have to remove the case when using as it will be a tight fit in the clamp.

    1. No, Still full of issues with S8. Tracking problems, wheel issues, 3×3 and pano constantly fails. Sorry.

    1. Yes. It works for most functions but there are still issues with the focus wheel and some automated functions like moving time-lapse.
